The city
Warsaw is Poland’s capital city and its most important economic center. It has a population of nearly 1.8 million and covers an area of 517 km2. Along with its neighboring municipalities, it forms the Warsaw Metropolis, which is one of Europe’s most rapidly developing areas.
Warsaw is an important academic and scientific hub. Some of the country’s best universities are based here. The city occupies a prominent position among developing technological hubs.
Seen by many as an attractive business destination, the capital of Poland boasts a rich history, wild natural beaches of the Vistula river and abundant food scene. Add to that diversity of museums, growing selection of moderately-priced hotels plus dense calendar of cultural events and you know why the city attracts more and more travelers from around the world.
Warsaw’s Old Town delights visitors with its colourful tenement houses and the unique atmosphere of its narrow streets. It is no wonder that it has been entered on the UNESCO World Heritage list. In the summer the district becomes a stage for cultural and music festivals and in winter it sparkles with beautiful illuminations. Do not miss the impressive residences located on the Royal Route: Royal Castle, Royal Łazienki Park and Wilanów Palace.
The city has a rich and varied cuisine and an incredible restaurant base. It ranks among the top vegan-friendly cities. In addition to traditional dishes, like dumplings and local soups, you will taste healthy food prepared from high-quality produce from farmer’s markets such as Hala Mirowska or BioBazar. Those places are also great for tasting such delicacies as Polish honey, organic baked goods, and Mazovian cheese and dairy. In two revitalised market halls Koszyki and Hala Gwardii, you’ll get a variety of options served at tens of stalls. Head also for the Praga Koneser Centre, Elektrownia Powiśle, Norblin Factory or Warsaw Breweries, whose post-industrial spaces are chock-full of elegant restaurants and stylish bars. If you opt for a relaxed atmosphere, venture to open-air family-friendly culinary festivals, food truck rallies and breakfast markets. Warsaw’s vibrant restaurant scene offers also many places for vegetarians and plenty of choice for those with a sweet tooth.
